Course Contents

Coastal Zone: planning and integrated management. Main characteristics of the coastal zone. Problems and risks. ICZM elements. The general model.

Phases: planning, diagnosis, implementing and evaluation.

The ICZM in the European Union: policy and laws. The Mediterranean Protocol. The green book on Maritime Policy. The ICZM in Spain as an example of implementation: policy and laws. The Spanish strategy. 
 

Practical work: Integrated management and Conservation of Coastal Zones: Spanish case studies.

 

Final Competencies

  1. Understanding of the main tools for planning management; sensibility, coordination and decision in practical case studies.

 

Additional information regarding evaluation methods

  • Continuous evaluation based on class presentations, reports in writing and solutions to practical problems.
  • Participation in class.
